ECtHR denies Saakashvili's transfer from prison hospital to civil one

The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) has denied the petition lodged by representatives of Mikhail Saakashvili, the third president of Georgia, that asked to oblige the authorities to transfer him to a civil clinic. Saakashvili's personal doctor, Nikoloz Kipshidze, has recorded injuries on his patient's body.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 30, Mikheil (Mikhail) Saakashvili, a former Georgian president returned to his homeland and was soon arrested. On October 1, he went on a hunger strike in the Rustavi Prison. In November, the authorities admitted that Saakashvili's health had deteriorated and transferred him to the prison hospital in Tbilisi, despite the fact that the politician himself and his supporters insisted on his hospitalization to a civilian clinic.

The ECtHR has rejected the claim of Saakashvili's representatives, which demanded to oblige the Georgian authorities to transfer the former president to a private multidisciplinary clinic. The ECtHR has also urged Saakashvili to stop his hunger strike, and obliged Georgian authorities to inform about the health of the former president and about all the undertaken medical interventions, the "Lenta.ru" has written today with reference to the message of Rati Bregadze, the head of the Georgia's Ministry of Justice (MoJ) posted on the Facebook.

On November 10, Nikoloz Kipshidze, Saakashvili's personal doctor, said that injuries were found on the body of the third country's president. According to the doctor, they are in different places; all of them were photographed, the "Mtavari Arkhi" TV Channel reports.
