Tbilisi resident detained under transgender's murder case

On October 31, in Tbilisi, two local men attacked two transgender women with knives; as a result one woman died, and the other was wounded.

The police have detained a man born in 1998 within the case of the murder of the transgender woman from Thailand who worked in a massage parlour in the capital of Georgia. According to the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), the detainee faces up to 15 years in prison, the "Rustavi-2" TV Channel reports.

Let us remind you that transgenders are periodically attacked in Tbilisi. Thus, on October 8, a car driver hit a transgender woman. The victim has stated that the attack was intentional. On September 28, police also reported the arrest of a Tbilisi resident for beating up a transgender woman.

Earlier, Georgian human rights defenders also noted an increase in aggression against LGBT people in the country. According to Nino Lomdjariya, the Georgian Ombudsperson, amid the restrictions introduced because of coronavirus, LGBT people have found themselves in distress, many of them were left without work and housing, and became victims of domestic violence.
