Despite scandal, Chechen authorities award maroon beret holders

Sharip Delimkhanov, the head of the Chechen branch of the "Rosgvardiya" (Russian National Guard), has awarded medals and certificates of honour to local military servicemen and "Rosgvardiya" fighters, who had received the right to wear maroon berets after being accused of dishonestly passing the tests thereto in the Stavropol Territory.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that earlier in October, a conflict broke out among "Rosgvardiya" servicemen during a speed march held as part of the tests for obtaining maroon berets held in the Stavropol Territory. The "Vityaz" fighters had stated that law enforcers from Chechnya had received their maroon berets by deceit.

Major General Sharip Delimkhanov, the head of the "Rosgvardiya" Branch for Chechnya, has awarded the local servicemen and "Rosgvardiya" fighters, who had successfully passed qualification tests for the right to wear maroon berets that were held on October 11-15 in the Stavropol Territory on the basis of the "Tambukan" "Rosgvardiya" Training Centre, the "Chechnya Today" News Agency has reported.

"On October 11-15, in the Stavropol Territory, on the basis of the "Tambukan" Training Centre of the "Rosgvardiya", they confidently won the highest symbol of valour of special fighters," General Delimkhanov has emphasized in his Instagram page. "The owners of maroon berets should be an example in everything; besides, it is important for them to transfer the acquired skills and abilities to others, to develop and make the community of maroon berets of the Chechen Republic even stronger," Mr Delimkhanov has written.
