Saakashvili's supporters set up tent near Rustavi Prison

A rally demanding to transfer Mikheil (Mikhail) Saakashvili, a former Georgian President, who has been on hunger strike for 24 days, to a private clinic, was held on October 24 near the Rustavi Prison. After the rally, several activists have set up a tent near the prison, stating that they plan to continue the action until Saakashvili's liberation.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Saakashvili is kept in the above prison, where he is holding a hunger strike since October 1, demanding his release. The board of doctors has recommended placing the former president into a clinic for intensive observation; at protest actions, Saakashvili's supporters insisted on the same. The politician himself said that he did not intend to end his hunger strike, but agreed to receive medication as a last resort. The Georgian Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has stated that if necessary Saakashvili would be hospitalized in a prison hospital rather than a private clinic.

On October 24, a rally was held near the Rustavi Prison in support of Mikhail Saakashvili, the third president of Georgia. Supporters came out with posters "Freedom to Misha!" and held flags of Georgia, European Union (EU) and the USA.

They demanded to immediately place Saakashvili, who has been on hunger strike for 24 days, to a civilian multidisciplinary clinic, the "News-Georgia" has reported.

Gela Udumashvili, a protester, has explained that they had set up a tent near the prison in protest against Mikhail Saakashvili's imprisonment. "We'll stay here until our demands are met, that is, [until] the third president of Georgia is released," the "InterPressNews quotes Mr Udumashvili as saying.
