A man suspected of raping underage activist detained in Azerbaijan

The Prosecutor’s Office of Azerbaijan has reported about the detention of the man suspected of raping a minor. The victim’s family expressed the hope that the suspect would be arrested.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that the family of the Azerbaijani female activist has not been able to get an investigation into the rape for a year already. A mother of the underage activist considered the crime a political order and revenge for her daughter’s activity in protecting women’s rights. On October 19, feminist Gyulnara Mekhtieva was detained while protesting in front of the presidential administration with the demand to bring her companion’s rapist to justice.

The victim’s mother said that Asker Agaev was detained as a suspect. He faces a sentence of five to ten years of imprisonment.
