ECtHR communicates a case on murder of Akhmednabiev

The European Court of Human Rights communicated the complaints filed by relatives of killed Dagestani journalists Akhmednabi Akhmednabiev and Khadjimurad Kamalov and combined the two cases into one proceeding.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that relatives of Akhmednabi Akhmednabiev, a “Caucasian Knot” correspondent, who was shot dead in Dagestan on July 9, 2013, filed a complaint to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) about the ineffective investigation into the crime. In their complaints, the relatives claimed that during eight years, investigators had not identified the killer and the customer of the murder.

Akhmednabi Akhmednabiev was shot dead near his house in the village of Semender in Dagestan. Akhmednabi had worked for the "Caucasian Knot" as its own correspondent for over seven years, covering acute topics.

Advocate Tumas Misakyan has informed the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent that today, the ECtHR has communicated the case of Akhmednabi Akhmednabiev and Khadjimurad Kamalov and united them into one proceeding.

“In both cases, the ECtHR asked the Russian state the questions about violations of Articles 2 and 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights,” reported advocate Tumas Misakyan, involved in the case by the “Caucasian Knot”.

Article 2 of the European Convention on Human Rights guarantees the right to life and Article 10 – the right to freedom of expression.

According to the advocate, the ECtHR proposed to consider the issue of a peace agreement before January 14. “If the parties do not come to any agreement, the European Court will begin to consider the case,” Tumas Misakyan noted.
