Journalist Anar Abdulla arrested in Baku

Anar Abdulla, an Azerbaijani journalist, has been arrested for 15 days for disobeying the police and petty hooliganism. However, activists believe that he is prosecuted for his freedom of expression on the Internet.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 5, in Baku, law enforcers detained Anar Abdulla.

According to Zibeida Sadygova, an advocate the consideration was biased, and the court's ruling was unjustified.

"Anar has confirmed that he was summoned to the police in connection with his comment on the Facebook. However, according to his story, it was not at all a 'prophylactic conversation' ... because they began insulting and beating him up for his critical comment about authorities," Ms Sadygova has stated.

Mina Alyarly, an Abdulla's colleague, has explained that Anar had written a comment addressed to the country's leadership under the post of a former political prisoner.

Emin Guseinov, the director of the Institute for Reporters' Freedom and Safety (IRFS), has treated Abdulla's arrest as "a punishment for the freedom of expression." He has noted that "it is not law enforcers' business to censor citizens' expressions on the Internet."

In 2012, Abdulla joined the "Nida" public movement, which, in particular, protested against non-combat losses in the army.
