Sports journalists discuss sanctions against “Akhmat” FC after beating of fans in Grozny

Fans of the “Spartak” FC (football club) may go to court with a request to punish Chechen law enforcers for beating people at the stadium, advocate Yevgeny Chernousov claims. The sports regulatory authorities do not intervene in off-field incidents, TV observer Alexei Durnovo notes.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that during a break in the match between the “Akhmat” and “Spartak” FCs in Grozny, fighters of the Akhmat Kadyrov special-purpose police regiment beat up two fans of the Moscow FC. Russian Premier League spokesperson Alexander Meitin claims no beating took place, although one of the fans shouted insults “on ethnic grounds” at local fans. Meanwhile, eyewitnesses confirmed the beating.

According to the regulations, the FC, which fans are chanting insulting expressions, is responsible for offensive shouts or obscenities at the stadium, advocate Yevgeny Chernousov notes.

The sports regulatory authorities are not able to intervene in off-field incidents, says Alexei Durnovo, an observer of the “Telesport” TV Channel.

The reaction of the leaders of the Russian Premier League to the incident in Grozny will be extremely restrained, if any, Alexei Durnovo believes.

It should be noted that visiting fans and members of the football teams playing with the “Akhmat” FC repeatedly faced aggression at the stadium in Grozny. That fact was pointed out by readers of sports websites who criticized the claim of Vyacheslav Grozny, the former coach of the “Akhmat” FC, and his calls to Artyom Dzyuba, a football player from the “Zenit” FC to apologize for the words about the “oppressive atmosphere” in Chechnya.
