Yerevan residents commemorate victims of Karabakh war with torchlight march

On September 26, in Yerevan, on the first anniversary of the start of the Karabakh war in 2020, a commemorative torchlight march was organized by activists of the "Ayastan" oppositional bloc.

"Let us show the enemy that Armenians have not surrendered," the bloc has emphasized in its announcement of the event.

The action was attended by the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), communities of national minorities living in the country, and clergymen. The second President of Armenia, Robert Kocharyan, also took part in the march.

The march started from Garegin Nzhde Square and processed to the "Erablur" Military Cemetery, where the casualties of the Karabakh war were buried.

The Armenian people should abandon the image of a defeatist; this is the essence of today's march, Ishkhan Sagatelyan, Vice-Speaker of the National Assembly from the "Ayastan" bloc, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The marchers carried lit candles and torches, and a large flag of Nagorno-Karabakh was stretched out. During the event, the names of those who perished in the 44-day war in Karabakh were read out.
