Dagestan resident convicted for oath to IS*

The Rostov-on-Don Military Court has sentenced Shamil Abdulmedjidov, a resident of Dagestan, to 12 years in a high security colony, having found him guilty of taking the oath to the "Islamic State" (IS)*. Abdulmedjidov refused to plead guilty.

He was accused of participation in a terrorist organization.

"It was established that during serving his criminal sentence at a correctional institution in the Stavropol Territory, in January 2020, the defendant took an oath of allegiance to the leader of the 'Islamic State' (IS), a banned terrorist organization," the press service of the Southern District Military Court has informed.

This is not the first case of the participation of prisoners in the IS* initiated in the Stavropol Territory. Earlier in April, the above Military Court sentenced Alexei Alimov and Mikhail Anisimov, prisoners in the Stavropol colony, to long prison terms, recognizing them as members of the IS*. Later, in July, the same court sentenced Michael Labazanov, a resident of the Stavropol Territory, to 15 years in prison, finding him guilty of involvement in a terrorist organization and recruiting other prisoners thereto.
