Film about election rigging awarded at Sochi Film Festival

The jury of the "Kinotavr" Film Festival recognized the film about election fraud "Almost Spring" directed by Nastya Korkiya as the winner in the nomination "For Purity and Accuracy". The story of a teacher who threw ballots into the ballot box is accurately describing the psychology of school teachers, whose work is equated to duties of civil servants, said Victor Matizen, a film critic.

The 32nd "Kinotavr" Open Russian Film Festival is on in Sochi from September 18 to September 25, 2021. On September 21, the film about female circumcision "Get Ready, Let's Go to Holiday" was screened and impressed the audience and film critics.

The film "Almost Spring" tells about the everyday life of an elderly female teacher of literature. Spectators were attracted by the scenes of the heroine's participation in the election commission, when she throws a bundle of ballots into a ballot box at the polling station in her school.

The film director has emphasized that they tried not to exploit the political topic, but set the main task to reflect the life of an ordinary school teacher.

Victor Matizen, a film critic, has pointed to a sharp difference of the film and other works put forward to the contest. "A very precise work; an accurate description of teachers' psychology – they are employees of the state and will do whatever they are told," he has stated.
