Symphony orchestra touring Northern Caucasus with Adyg folklore melodies

The concert tour of the Leningrad Regional Symphony Orchestra with a repertoire based on Adyg (Circassian) folklore was launched by a concert in Krasnodar. Instsgram users report that they are looking forward to concerts in Maykop, Nalchik and Cherkessk.

On September 21, the Symphony Orchestra of the Leningrad Region under the direction of Mikhail Golikov, the artistic director and chief conductor, arrived in Northern Caucasus for a large tour. On September 21-29, the musicians will give concerts in Krasnodar, Maykop, Nalchik, Cherkessk, according to the orchestra_47 page on the Instagram.

The Circassians' musical folklore has centuries-old history. For a long time, Adyg folk songs reflected the ethnos' development stages; and folklore genres dictated moral and aesthetic ideals, the "Melodiya" Company's blog says.

The orchestra's repertoire includes the Circassians' musical folklore in the modern interpretation. Mikhail Golikov became interested in the Adyg ethnic music after participating in the cultural project "Symphony of the Caucasus". Together with contemporary composers, maestro Golikov has collected and restored old scores.

The announcements of the concerts of the Symphony Orchestra in social networks have sparked users' interest. Commentators said that they are looking forward to the orchestra's concerts.
