Dagestani observers complain about counteraction to their activities

Members of election commissions interfere with the checking of voters’ documents and preventing voting at places of residence, a coordinator of the “Observers of Dagestan” movement reports.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that today, the voting at the elections to the State Duma, the People’s Assembly of the republic, and local self-government bodies has begun in Dagestan.

The “Caucasian Knot” correspondent has been informed by Ruslan Akhalchi, a coordinator of the “Observers of Dagestan” movement, that members of precinct election commissions interfere with the work of observers and members of the election commission with an advisory vote. “Our observers register all violations. There are already prospects for further legal activities with regard to some complaints, up to going to court,” Ruslan Akhalchi said.

“The ban on moving around a polling station and looking through the documents prevents observers from checking the registration of those who come to vote. There are cases when observers still manage to check the documents, and it turns out that a person does not have the right to vote at that very polling station. Such voters are generally being brought to polling stations in an organized manner. There are quite a few cases,” the coordinator of the “Observers of Dagestan” movement stated.
