A relative of a deceased soldier detained at a picket in Yerevan

The police detained a resident of Armenia, who went to a picket with a demand to abandon the solemn celebration of the Independence Day of Armenia and observe the mourning for those killed during the war in Nagorno-Karabakh.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that the Armenian authorities decided to celebrate on a large scale the 30th anniversary of the country’s independence, and those plans met harsh criticism. In their appeal to Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, about 350 parents and relatives of the dead soldiers called on to cancel the festive events.

Today, a man, whose relative was killed in the 2020 autumn war in Nagorno-Karabakh, has come to a solo picket in front of the government building in Yerevan. In his hands, the picketer was holding a poster with the inscription in Russian: “We demand to cancel the concert of September 21. Respect the mourning for the dead,” the “News.am” reported.

In a video posted by the “News.am” on its YouTube channel, two policemen talk to the participant of the solo picket and then force him into a police car.

The solo picketer was detained for failure to obey a lawful police order, the press service for the Armenian Police reported.
