Advocate complains about absence of medical care to Ingush activist Pogorov at SIZO

The health condition of Akhmed Pogorov, a co-chairman of the World Congress of the Ingush People, has worsened after his second arrest, but at the SIZO (pre-trial prison) he cannot receive the necessary medical treatment, his advocate asserts.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Akhmed Pogorov, a former head of the Department for Ingushetia of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), now a co-chairman of the World Congress of the Ingush People, was arrested in February 2021. On June 22, the court extended his custody by three months.

Akhmed Pogorov had been wanted under the case of activists' clashes with law enforcers at a rally in Magas in March 2019. He was accused of organizing violence against law enforcer. On August 24, it became known that Pogorov was included by the Russian authorities into the list of extremists and terrorists. This inclusion is incorrect and may affect the verdict, human rights defenders believe.

At SIZO No. 1 in Nalchik, Kabardino-Balkaria, Akhmed Pogorov receives no medical care, the "OVD-Info" reports with reference his advocate, Magomed Gagiev. According to the advocate, after Pogorov's repeated detention in May, his health condition deteriorated sharply after he was placed into the worst SIZO cell, which has worsened his condition.

Earlier, Magomed Gagiev complained that the custody conditions at Nalchik SIZO humiliated Pogorov's dignity. The advocate pointed out that the toilet was not working in the cell; there were no glasses in the windows, only bars. According to his story, keeping people in such conditions "is harmful to their health and in fact is torture."
