Karabakh refugees dissatisfied with official meeting in Yerevan

Today, a representative of the Armenian government has not announced any ways of solving the housing problems of forced migrants from Nagorno-Karabakh, claim participants of a protest action held in front of the building of the Cabinet of Ministers.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on September 2, at a protest action in Yerevan, forced migrants from the Kashatag District demanded to provide them with housing or to adequately compensate for the damage from the deprivation of real estate. The protesters gave the Armenian authorities a week to prepare a response.

Today, in Yerevan, former residents of the Gadrut, Karvachar, and Kashatag Districts of Nagorno-Karabakh, which came under the control of Azerbaijan following the combat actions in the autumn of 2020, have gathered in front of the government building with the demand to solve their housing problems, the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent reports. According to organizers, more than 100 people took part in the protest action.

At the protest action, Arthur Stepanyan, a resident of Gadrut, said that 15 days ago the refugees appealed to the government in writing, but today, at a meeting with an official from the Cabinet of Ministers, they have not heard anything encouraging.

“We were told that they did not know what to answer us. Our situation remains uncertain. About 21,000 refugees from Artsakh (the Armenian name of Nagorno-Karabakh, – note of the ‘Caucasian Knot) live in Armenia, and their fate does not bother anyone,” Arthur Stepanyan said.
