"Alternativa" reports new fugitive from labour slavery in Dagestan

A native of the Chelyabinsk Region has escaped from a factory in Dagestan, where he was in labour slavery, the "Alternativa" movement has reported. Commentators have called on the police to pay attention to the problem of forced labour in Dagestan.

A few months ago, Salavat Zhamilov arrived in Moscow in search of a job, but lost his documents. He was offered to work in the Stavropol Territory, but instead he was brought to a brick factory in Kizilyurt, the "Alternativa" has reported on the Instagram.

"He worked for a month there and understood that he would never get any salary. At night, Salavat left and managed to get to Makhachkala," the movement has explained.

Commentators expressed their outrage that there are still factories where people are held in slavery. They called on law enforcement bodies to tackle the problem.

In Dagestan, most cases of forced labour have to do with factories making building materials. Slaves in Dagestan are a cheap manpower that is lured to the Caucasus mainly by fraudulent means.
