Human rights defenders comment on Grozny airport named after Akhmat Kadyrov

The assignment of the name of Akhmat Kadyrov to Grozny airport continued the course of “akhmatization” of the republic, tacitly approved by the Kremlin, human rights defenders believe. The authorities also timed the opening of the “Grozny Mall” centre, a mosque in the village of Aldy and the allocation of apartments in the Nadterechny District to coincide with the 70th anniversary of Akhmat Kadyrov’s birth. Ramzan Kadyrov promotes the merits of his father, thus continuing his line on relations with the Kremlin, analysts say.

According to Ruslan Kutaev, the president of the Assembly of Caucasian Nations, the actions in honour of the 70th anniversary of Akhmat Kadyrov are not agitation for Ramzan Kadyrov as a candidate for the post of leader of Chechnya. Ruslan Kutaev called the election and the assignment of the name of Akhmat Kadyrov to the Grozny airport a coincidence. Meanwhile, he has noted that the outcome of the election is clear: Ramzan Kadyrov will win.

Ruslan Kutaev believes that the Kremlin is trying to change the values of Chechen young people and society as a whole.

Svetlana Gannushkina, the chair of the “Civic Assistance” Committee, reacted with humour to the news about the airport named after Akhmat Kadyrov. The human rights defender has pointed out that the actions in honour of the 70th anniversary of Akhmat Kadyrov are held with the approval of the Kremlin, which is in support of Ramzan Kadyrov’s policies.
