Relatives point out inconsistencies in case of three Derbent residents

Law enforcers claim that residents of Derbent were detained on foot, but cars of all three men ended up at a police station, relatives of the defendants claim.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that female relatives of Islam Barzukaev, Gasan Kurbanov, and Mirzaali Mirzaliev regularly hold pickets in Makhachkala in support of the defendants. A mother of Mirzaali Mirzaliev reported that law enforcers were forcing her son to incriminate Islam Barzukaev and Gasan Kurbanov. Investigators have already ten times denied relatives to institute a case on torture against law enforcers.

According to the investigators’ version, Islam Barzukaev, Gasan Kurbanov, and Mirzaali Mirzaliev organized an armed grouping to “encroach on law enforcers and render armed resistance.” The relatives claimed that all three had been kidnapped and forced to give confessions under torture.

At a picket on February 19, the female relatives of the defendants voiced the names of the law enforcers they believed to be involved in the torture. Those claims turned into lawsuits against Elena Barzukaeva filed by the law enforcers.

In mid-July, the female relatives of the defendants reported that Islam Barzukaev needed surgery, but did not receive medical treatment, and Gasan Kurbanov received medical assistance only partially because of a shortage of doctors.
