“Alliance of Patriots of Georgia” requests President Putin to restore dialogue with Tbilisi

Activists of the opposition “Alliance of Patriots of Georgia” Party have addressed an open letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin, in which they asked him for assistance in settling the Georgian-Russian relations, the “Georgia Online” reports today with reference to Irma Inashvili, the leader of the “Alliance of Patriots of Georgia” Party.

“Mr. President, we appeal to you in the hope of your assistance in resuming our cooperation within the State Duma, the Federation Council, and the presidential administration of the Russian Federation. Your assistance is also urgently needed in organizing joint media, cultural and social projects. In general, that will contribute to the understanding that the only correct way is to build truly open and good bilateral relations on the basis of a real consideration of the interests of the parties,” the “Georgia Online” quotes an abstract from the open letter addressed to the Russian President. The appeal was signed by 42 people, the “Georgia Online” reports.

According to the open letter, “the endless NATO exercises in Georgia are nothing more than a challenge to Russia. This is a theatre of two actors. And the actors are the ‘Georgian Dream’ (the ruling party, – note of the ‘Caucasian Knot’) and the ‘National Movement’ (the opposition party founded by Mikhail Saakashvili, a former president of the country, – note of the ‘Caucasian Knot) Parties.”

Earlier, the opposition has held meetings with Russian politicians to defuse tension. “The ‘Georgian Dream’ Party has made all efforts to stop those meetings and to freeze the dialogue ... We are publicly addressing the Russian President in order to defuse tension again and restore dialogue at all levels,” the Russian news agency (RIA) “Novosti” quotes Irma Inashvili as saying today.
