A 53-year-old resident of Chechnya, whom investigators have suspected of torturing two children, was detained.

"During the absence of the children's mother in the house where they lived together, the woman repeatedly used physical violence against the children and forced them at least three times to drink a drug intended for nasal use, which in fact has strict dosage restrictions for children under six years of age," says the today's message posted on the website of the Investigating Department (ID) for Chechnya of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF).

The woman has stated in her testimony that she knew about the contraindications of the drug, but she wanted to harm the health of her stepson's children because of her hostility towards him, says the ID's message.

A criminal case against the woman has been initiated under the article on torture of minors. She faces up to seven years in prison.
