Film by Nalchik director included in programme of Venice Film Festival

The film by Nalchik director Vladimir Bitokov “Mama, I’m home” was included in the new programme “Horizons Extra” of the Venice Film Festival. The film producer considered the interest of the international film festival organizers to the film a great success.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that in 2018, Vladimir Bitokov presented at several festivals the film "Deep Rivers", shot in the Kabardian language, in which he acted as a scriptwriter and a film director. Spectators from Kabardino-Balkaria pointed to the skilfully conveyed Caucasian flavour and the relevance of the raised problems concerning the native language.

The international title of the film is “Mama, I’m home”. The main character Tonya is a bus driver who is waiting for the return of her son, who left to fight under a contract in Syria. When Tonya is informed that her son was killed, she refuses to believe it and begins a struggle on her own, demanding to return her son to her, the “Rossiyskaya Gazeta” reports.

Producer Alexander Rodnyansky called the inclusion of the film “Mama, I’m home” in the official programme of the Venice Film Festival a “very great success” of Vladimir Bitokov.

Let us remind you that on July 16, the film “Unclenching the Fists”, filmed in North Ossetia by Kira Kovalenko, a director from Kabardino-Balkaria, won the Grand Prix of the “Special Look” film contest at the 74th Cannes Film Festival.

In 2017, Kantemir Balagov’s film “Tesnota” (Tightness) was also awarded a prize at the Cannes Film Festival. Like Kira Kovalenko, Kantemir Balagov is a student of the director Alexander Sokurov’s workshop.
