Five protesters against quarantine in Vladikavkaz sentenced to imprisonment

In Rostov-on-Don, a court sentenced five participants of a protest action against self-isolation, which took place in Vladikavkaz in April 2020. Aslan Gasiev and Zaza Tsaritov were sentenced to five years, David Okruashvili and Arthur Bugulov – to five years and three months, and Magomed Kadyrov – to five and a half years of imprisonment.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that the court considers two criminal cases on participation in riots at a rally in Vladikavkaz. Arthur Bugulov, Aslan Gasiev, Magomed Kadyrov, David Okruashvili, and Zaza Tsaritov are involved in one of the above criminal cases as defendants.

On April 20, 2020, in Vladikavkaz, the police dispersed an action held by opponents of the self-isolation regime, who demanded the resignation of the North-Ossetian government. According to the investigators’ information, 13 law enforcers were injured during the spontaneous rally. Vadim Cheldiev, whom the investigators consider an initiator of the rally, was added to the list of extremists.

According to the prosecutors’ information, defendants Arthur Bugulov, Aslan Gasiev, Magomed Kadyrov, David Okruashvili, and Zaza Tsaritov were active participants in the action and resisted the policemen who were trying to force the protesters out of the square.

Two of the defendants pleaded guilty in full, while the rest refused to admit the full charge. Arthur Bugulov, Magomed Kadyrov, and David Okruashvili stated that they were on the square and out of curiosity decided to watch what was happening. David Okruashvili confessed that he succumbed to emotions and threw a stone towards the policemen, but did not do that on purpose.
