Nagorno-Karabakh commemorates casualties and missing people

The participants of the events on the Remembrance Day of Casualties and Missing Soldiers in Karabakh Wars laid flowers at the Memorial Complex. During the last autumn war in Nagorno-Karabakh, 270 military servicemen went missing; and nothing is known about the fate of 18 civilians.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in Armenia, relatives of those who went missing during the last autumn conflict escalation have repeatedly held protests demanding from authorities to give the exact number of those missing. This June, the Investigating Committee of Armenia announced that 275 people went missing.

According to the Union of the Missing Persons, before the 2020 autumn war, 710 people were considered missing in Karabakh during the conflict, of whom 239 persons were militaries.

After the 2020 hostilities, 18 civilians are considered as missing persons, said Gegam Stepanyan, the Nagorno-Karabakh Ombudsperson. These are mainly elderly villagers of the Gadrut District, who refused to leave their homes during the evacuation.

A total of 60 Armenians are held captive in the territory of Azerbaijan, Karen Sargsyan, the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) and the chairman of the commission, has added.

Let us remind you that on April 14, Nikol Pashinyan stated that about 4000 Armenian soldiers perished; 321 people are regarded as missing. The losses of both parties suffered during the aggravation of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict are approximately equal, Russian military experts believe.
