Derbent drug police officers accused of violence and fabrication of a criminal case

Dagestani law enforcers forced a not-guilty person to confess to selling drugs and demanded a million roubles from him, investigators suggest. A criminal case has been sent to court.

According to the investigators’ version, on August 1, 2020, three police officers detained in Derbent a 29-year-old local resident, who had earlier criminal record for drug trafficking. The policemen used violence against the detainee and forced him to confess to selling drugs, the Investigating Department for Dagestan of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) reports today.

“After having received consent, they demanded a million roubles from the man. The victim achieved a reduction in the amount to 500,000 roubles. After that, one of the accused brought a package with a narcotic substance and put it in an outer pocket of the local resident’s trousers. Then, the above-mentioned package was seized from the detainee in the presence of invited witnesses. On the same day, the man asked his relatives and friends to transfer 350,000 roubles to his bank card, which he withdrew from an ATM and handed over to the accused,” the ICRF’s Investigating Department for Dagestan reports on its official website.

After that, an investigation into drug trafficking was launched against the detained resident of Derbent. The charges were brought against the policemen depending on the role of each of them, and the criminal case was sent to the court, the “Makhachkala Izvestia” reports today.
