Cossacks attack cyclists in centre of Stavropol

A video posted on a social media site depicted how two cyclists were attacked by Cossacks on a pedestrian street in Stavropol, and one of them tried to throw a bicycle at a teenager.

Today, the video of the quarrel has been posted in the public account “ChP Stavropol” on VKontakte. The video depicts two men in uniform chasing cyclists across an empty square, insulting them, and using foul language. The young people asked several times what exactly they had violated. One of the Cossacks in blue uniform several times hit the cyclist who was filming the incident on his mobile phone.

One of the participants in the conflict is a cyclist from Krasnodar, the Russian champion in BMX Cycling (bicycle motocross), explains Grigory Muratov, the president of the public organization for extreme sports in the Stavropol Territory. According to him, there are no places for extreme sports in Stavropol. “In connection with the lack of certified skate areas, the guys have to go in for sports in city public areas. Perhaps, the Cossacks could not like that fact. I consider unacceptable any attacks and similar actions against the guys. After all, they just went in for sports,” Grigory Muratov also emphasized that one of the athletes was a minor.
