Kadyrov threatens to impose severe coronavirus restrictions in Chechnya

Chechen authorities will have to impose severe restrictions related to coronavirus in case the republic shows low vaccination rates, Ramzan Kadyrov has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 10, Kadyrov announced the abolition of the mandatory wearing of medical masks in public places, and the lifting of restrictions on crossing the republic's border. His order to abolish the mask regime came into conflict with the statement of the head of the "Rospotrebnadzor" (Russian Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing) about the premature of such relief.

"Some members of our society are irresponsible towards themselves and others. After all, refusal to get vaccinated can lead to sad consequences. Therefore, taking this opportunity, I have urged our population to show consciousness and get vaccinated. Otherwise, we will have to resort to severe restrictive measures," Ramzan Kadyrov wrote on his Telegram channel.

In Chechnya, Kadyrov, Magomed Daudov, Speaker of the Chechen Parliament, and other high-ranking officials have repeatedly threatened with high fines for non-observance of the mask regime. At the same time, local residents and social network users criticized them for violating these regulations themselves.

Let us remind you that in the fall of 2020, Chechnya got on the list of the Russian regions with the worst dynamics of coronavirus spread along with Kalmykia and Moscow, while the official statistics differed from the data on the excessive mortality in the republic.
