Engineering works of Azerbaijani militaries raise concerns in Yerevan

From the first days of the exacerbation of the situation, Azerbaijan has made attempts to gain a foothold on the border, but recently the works have been carried out using machinery, which may indicate Baku's far-reaching plans, said a source familiar with the situation.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 7, the Armenian Ministry of Defence (MoD) announced that Armenian militaries had forced their Azerbaijani counterparts to stop excavating near the village of Verin Shorzha.

Engineering works have been undertaken by the Azerbaijani party from the first days of the border conflict aggravation, a source familiar with the situation told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent on condition of anonymity. According to his story, recently, however, these works have already been carried out with the use of special machinery.

In his opinion, this may indicate that the Azerbaijani Armed Forces are planning to stay in this territory for a long time. "If force is used by the Armenian party, the Azerbaijani Armed Forces will be able to resist given the presence of engineering communications," he said.

"Azerbaijan is carrying out the works to demonstrate the irreversibility of some processes, which, however, no one except Baku considers irreversible," Naira Airumyan, the editor of the Russian version of the "Lragir.am", has commented to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent on the information about the erection of fortifications on the border.

"Not only the border line has not been defined, but also the belonging to Azerbaijan of the Karabakh territories that passed under Baku's control. This means that Baku is building a border out of quicksand," she has concluded.
