Azerbaijan reports capture of an Armenian saboteur at border

An Armenian reconnaissance and sabotage group tried to mine the territory of Azerbaijan, and one of the soldiers was detained, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of Azerbaijan reported. Their Armenian counterpart claims that captured contract soldier Arthur Kartanyan simply got lost.

Yerevan stated that Azerbaijani militaries had penetrated the territory of the Syunik and Gegarkunik Regions of Armenia. In their turn, Azerbaijani authorities claim that border guards are only changing their deployment. The parties systematically report incidents at the border.

The Azerbaijani MoD announced the detention in the Lachin direction of Arthur Kartanyan, a member of the reconnaissance and sabotage group of the Armenian armed forces. “The rest of the group retreated and left the territory of Azerbaijan,” the MoD of Azerbaijan reported.

The reconnaissance and sabotage group entered the territory of Azerbaijan, taking advantage of the bad weather. According to the preliminary information, the task of the group was to mine the territory of Azerbaijan, the MoD of Azerbaijan declares in the today’s message on its official website.

Today, contract soldier Arthur Katanyan has found himself on the territory controlled by the Azerbaijani armed forces, as he got lost because of the fog, the Armenian Ministry of Defence reports in turn. “The statement of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defence, according to which Arthur Katanyan is a saboteur, does not correspond to actual facts,” the “Sputnik Armenia” quotes today the Armenian Ministry of Defence as announcing.
