Azerbaijan starts reconstructing reservoir in Sugovushan
The first rehabilitation phase of the Sugovushan reservoir has begun. After reconstruction, it will provide 96 hectares of arable land with water, said Rafig Aslanov, deputy chairman of the Open Joint-Stock Company (OJSC) "Melioration and Water Management".
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 3, 2020, Azerbaijani President, Ilham Aliev, announced the capture of the village of Madagiz and seven more villages that had been controlled by Armenian militaries; then, he renamed the village of Madagiz into Sugovushan. On October 9, water from the Sugovushan reservoir began arriving to Azerbaijan.
"The damage caused only to this territory is measured in millions. Over the past period, demining works have been carried out. Now, it's the peak of irrigation works; therefore, we are trying to eliminate the damage and, first of all, to irrigate the Terter, Goranboy and Yevlakh Districts," the "Trend.az" has quoted Mr Aslanov as saying.
Let us remind you that on January 13, 2021, Azerbaijan announced the launch of two hydroelectric power plants (HPPs) in Sugovushan. On May 26, power engineers reported on the start of electricity supply to the village.
