ASFS reacts to reports on shootout at border

Reports of an armed conflict on the border with Armenia have nothing to do with reality, the Azerbaijani State Frontier Service (ASFS) has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in mid-May, the Armenian-Azerbaijani border conflict escalated. On May 13, Yerevan stated that Azerbaijani militaries had penetrated into the Syunik and Gegarkunik Regions of Armenia. On May 27, six Armenian military servicemen, who were mining a road on the border, were captured. The Armenian General Staff counted a thousand Azerbaijani soldiers on the contact line; and Nikol Pashinyan, Acting Prime Minister of Armenia, treated the situation as "explosive."

The ASFS has called the information about an armed conflict on the border of the Zangilan District with an Armenian sabotage group, and the detention of two militaries that appeared in social networks to be a fake, the "Azeri Daily" reports.

"The situation on the Armenian border is under complete control," the APA quotes the ASFS as stating.

Let us remind you that on May 19, Sergey Lavrov, Russian Foreign Minister, called on Armenia and Azerbaijan to set up create a commission for defining the border and assured that Moscow was ready to act as a mediator. Yerevan agreed to the commission, subject to the withdrawal of Azerbaijani troops to their initial positions. On May 29, Azerbaijani Prime Minister Ali Asadov said that Baku also accepts Moscow's proposal.
