Nine people detained in Yerevan at protest action against agreement with Azerbaijan

The activists who blocked the avenue near the building of the Armenian Parliament in protest against the signing of the border agreement with Azerbaijan announced by Nikol Pashinyan have been detained for resisting law enforcers.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 20, hundreds of activists gathered at the building of the Armenian Government and opposed the signing of the agreement with Azerbaijan that had been announced by Pashinyan. The police counted 800 protesters.

At the government sitting on May 20, Nikol Pashinyan announced his intention to sign an agreement with Azerbaijan, but did not disclose the content of the document. The parliamentary opposition believes that such decisions cannot be made before the elections.

The activists at the rally announced the creation of a Committee for the Protection of Armenia with the involvement of volunteer detachments that will advance the Armenian issue in the context of the international law. It is planned to monitor the state of the border defence in different areas and provide this information to the public, Ara Zograbyan, the head of the Chamber of Lawyers, has stated.

On May 20, participants of a similar action in Stepanakert supported the Yerevan protesters. The signing of the document announced by Pashinyan could have catastrophic consequences for both Armenia and Karabakh, they have stated.
