Social media users: Chechen authorities ignore problem of corruption

Total corruption in Chechen maternity hospitals and other hospitals is a well-known fact, but officials fail to fight the problem, Instagram users note. In their comments, some users fear they will be forced to apologize for voicing criticism.

On May 3, a woman from Grozny complained on Instagram about extortion of money at a local maternity hospital. Other users supported her and reported about how republic’s maternity hospitals took money from them for the free services provided by law.

Earlier, on April 28, a woman from Shali also complained about the district hospital and accused its employees of incompetence, bad attitude, and extortion of money. Instagram users expressed their sympathy and shared their negative impressions from visits to Chechen medical institutions.

In their comments, several users claim that corruption in maternity hospitals is a specific feature of the regions in Northern Caucasus.

“The entire population of Chechnya suffers from the arbitrariness of medical personnel,” claimed, in particular, user maskhud_9595.

The local authorities ignore the need to solve the problem of total corruption, Instagram users write in their comments. Moreover, users fear that they will be punished for their complaints.
