Social media users criticize Kadyrov’s report on reducing unemployment

After the Ramzan Kadyrov’s statement that the unemployment rate in the region has almost halved since late 2020, Instagram users point out there is no real decline in the unemployment rate in Chechnya.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that in September 2020, Muslim Khuchiev, Prime Minister of Chechnya, announced that the unemployment rate in the republic before the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic was only 8%, but since then it has grown to 25%, from 50,500 to 157,700 unemployed people.

On April 26, during a visit to Chechnya of Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, Ramzan Kadyrov announced that the Chechen authorities managed to stabilize the unemployment situation and reduce the unemployment rate from 26.7% to 15%.

“In the third quarter of 2020, the maximum unemployment rate was 26.7 percent, or 168,300 unemployed people. As a result of a number of measures implemented, the unemployment rate has dropped to 15.0 percent by now,” the “Grozny-Inform” news agency quoted on the same day the leader of Chechnya as saying.

Instagram users expressed their scepticism about the statement voiced by the leader of Chechnya.

“Where are those jobs? They don’t want to hire you even as a cleaner when you are older than 25 [years old],” complained user akhmadova197, whose comment was translated from Chechen into Russian by the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent.

“Nonsense! A large number of young people leave the republic to find job!” wrote user ali_anaev. “That is why the unemployment rate decreased,” user deni_guno answered to the above post. “The unemployment rate has dropped, as written on paper: the paper will endure everything. However, who knows the actual rate,” noted user 1002asia.
