“Voice of Beslan” activists follow Navalny and stop their hunger strike

Ella Kesaeva, the co-chair of the “Voice of Beslan” public committee, and three other activists, who had been on hunger strike with the demand to let a doctor visit oppositionist Alexei Navalny in a penal colony, stopped their protest action.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that starting from March 31, Alexei Navalny was on the hunger strike in the penal colony where he was serving his sentence. The oppositionist demanded to let an invited doctor visit him and the medicines be handed over to him. Today, Alexei Navalny has announced that he has stopped his hunger strike. The oppositionist has also noted that he was touched by the solidarity hunger strike held by the “Voice of Beslan” pubic committee.

According to Ella Kesaeva, the health state of all the hunger-strikers is stable. She believes the protest actions in support of Alexei Navalny were not in vain.

Earlier, the co-chair of the “Voice of Beslan” public committee has compared Alexei Navalny to victims of the terror act in Beslan. “We shouted that if after the Beslan terror act the authorities did not answer for what they had done, then impunity would give rise to new crimes,” Ella Kesaeva stated.
