In Yerevan, participants of “Action of Silence” demand more active return of POWs from Azerbaijan

Today, in Yerevan, activists have held the “Action of Silence” in front of the UN building. The protestors demand the immediate return of Armenian prisoners of war (POWs) from Azerbaijan.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 8, relatives of the Armenian prisoners of war began a protest action at the Erebuni airport after they received information that a plane, which had arrived from Azerbaijan, had not delivered any prisoners of war. On April 13, relatives of the Armenian military servicemen, who occurred in the Azerbaijani captivity, blocked the entrance to the administration of the Shirak Region, demanding a meeting with the Prime Minister of Armenia.

At the today's action in Yereven, the protesters were holding in their hands posters reading: “Free 300+ Armenian POWs & Hostages”, “Aliev Refuses”, and “Freedom for all Armenian hostages and POWs in Azerbaijan.” The protesters attached handcuffs to the fence of the UN office as a symbol of the need to keep the return of POWs from Azerbaijan in the centre of the UN’s attention.

Today, the “Action of Silence” is taking place in 15 countries of the world. The initiative to hold actions in different countries of the world came from members of the Armenian Diaspora, says Seda Grigoryan, a participant of the action.

According to the activist, the today’s series of actions has begun in Yerevan, and activists in Toronto, Montreal, Los Angeles, New York, Houston, Sacramento, Paris, Geneva, Berlin, Rome, Warsaw, Marseille, Moscow, and other cities will join it. “We will continue our actions and inform the whole world about the crimes of Azerbaijan until our POWs return to their homeland,” Seda Grigoryan said during the event.
