In March 2021, three persons fell victim to armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

In March 2021, four persons fell victim to the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus. Of them, one person was killed, another perished, and one more was wounded. These are the results of the calculations run by the “Caucasian Knot” based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

On March 4, in Ingushetia, while searching for metal, several people stumbled upon an explosive device near the road in the village of Plievo in the Nazran District. An explosion occurred, in the result of which one person was killed and the other was seriously injured.

On March 11, a suspected militant was discovered in a private house during the counterterrorist operation (CTO) in Makhachkala, Dagestan. When requested to surrender, the suspect opened fire on law enforcers and was killed during the shootout. At the place of the shootout, the law enforcers found a “suicide belt,” a submachine gun, and a lot of ammunition. According to sources, in 2005, the suspect was sentenced to 17 years of imprisonment in a case on the murder of policemen. The killed suspect was a member of an armed grouping led by Rasul Makasharipov, who was killed in 2005.

The “Caucasian Knot” notes that the provided statistics cannot reflect the number of victims with 100 percent accuracy. Not all information is included in the news reports. It is not always possible to check the reliability of the statements voiced by the law enforcement bodies. Besides, new facts about the events of the reporting period become often known after the statistics had been already published on the “Caucasian Knot”.

In Kabardino-Balkaria, Karachay-Cherkessia, North Ossetia-Alania, the Stavropol Territory, and Chechnya, no victims of the armed conflict were registered in March 2021.
