In February 2021, four persons fell victim to armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

In February 2021, four persons fell victim to the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus. Of them, one person was killed and three others were wounded. These are the results of the calculations run by the “Caucasian Knot” based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

On February 25, in the village of Uchkeken in the Malokarachaevsky District of Karachay-Cherkessia, law enforcers approached a driver to check his ID. The driver stabbed one of the policemen with a knife, while a passenger fired a gun at a fighter of the National Guard of Russia, and then the attackers fled. On February 28, the police detained one of the attackers in Cherkessk.

On February 27, in Makhachkala, Dagestan, when asked to produce his ID, a 25-year-old man opened fire on two inspectors of the patrol-and-post service (known as PPS). A policeman was wounded, and he wounded the attacker by returned fire. Another man tried to escape and was detained by the police. The man hospitalized after the shootout died in the hospital. According to the law enforcers, the second detainee was a man who witnessed the shootout.

The “Caucasian Knot” notes that the provided statistics cannot reflect the number of victims with 100 percent accuracy. Not all information is included in the news reports. It is not always possible to check the reliability of the statements voiced by the law enforcement bodies. Besides, new facts about the events of the reporting period become often known after the statistics had been already published on the “Caucasian Knot”.

In Ingushetia, Kabardino-Balkaria, North Ossetia-Alania, the Stavropol Territory, and Chechnya, no victims of the armed conflict were registered in February 2021.
