Barakhoev and Chemurziev feel better after refusing their hunger strike

The health state of Ingush activists Akhmed Barakhoev and Barakh Chemurziev improved a week after they had stopped their hunger strike, while Zarifa Sautieva requested the SIZO (pre-trial prison) administration to provide her with medical care, advocates reported.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the leaders of the Ingush protest, accused in a case on the rally in Magas, went on a hunger strike. The defendants also refused to take further part in the trial in protest against the decision of the Stavropol Territorial Court of March 16 to return to custody activist Zarifa Sautieva, who had been released from the SIZO just a week earlier. On March 23, the activists stopped their hunger strike, explaining this by the requests of the Muftiate and the Council of Teips of Ingushetia.

According to Magomed Abubakarov, an advocate of Barakh Chemurziev, Akhmed Barakhoev and Barakh Chemurziev “did not feel well” at the end of their hunger strike, and the defence was “investigating in detail the issue” concerning their medical examination. “Now they feel better, and they have no complaints,” said Magomed Abubakarov.

Zarifa Sautieva had already been transferred to the SIZO, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by her advocate Bilan Dzugaev. “Zarifa was transferred to the SIZO almost immediately after the pronouncement of the court’s decision. My client does not feel very well. She needs to undergo medical tests, and she requested the SIZO administration to ensure she could undergo those tests, as she needs constant medical supervision ... However, the SIZO is not able to provide full medical care,” explained Bilan Dzugaev.
