Chechen MPs treat Milashina's article as encroachment on Kadyrov's honour and dignity

Vladimir Putin should organize a check of the activities of the "Novaya Gazeta", the Chechen Parliament has stated. After Elena Milashina's publication, Shamsail Saraliev, a State Duma MP, has appealed to the Russian General Prosecutor's Office (GPO).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 15, the "Novaya Gazeta" posted a story told by Suleiman Gezmakhmaev, a former fighter of the Akhmat Kadyrov special-purpose police regiment, who witnessed extrajudicial executions in Chechnya. After that, in a video appeal to Vladimir Putin, the fighters of the Akhmat Kadyrov special-purpose police regiment called on the Russian President to stop the "information war" against the special-purpose police regiment. According to one of the Chechen law enforcers who voiced the video appeal, the fighters of the special-purpose police regiment are being forced to have one of them "take responsibility for stopping the insults to the entire personnel."

In their official appeal to Russian President, the Chechen MPs asked him "to instruct the relevant agencies to give a legal assessment of the provocative activities of the 'Novaya Gazeta'."

According to MPs, the newspaper published "an article of an insulting and slanderous nature that belittles the honour and dignity of the servicemen of the Special Police Patrol-and-Post Regiment named after the Hero of Russia Akhmat-Haji Kadyrov of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of the Chechen Republic" and infringes upon the honour and dignity of Ramzan Kadyrov, says the statement posted on the website of the Chechen Parliament on March 18.

Shamsail Saraliev, a State Duma MP, has sent a letter with a similar request to the Prosecutor General of Russia.
