Chaika reports fight against militants in Northern Caucasus

Overall 45 militants were killed by law enforcers in the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD) in 2020; other 113 members armed groupings were detained, Yuri Chaika, the Russian President's envoy to the NCFD, has reported.

More than 900 weapon units were withdrawn from illegal circulation, as well as 120,000 ammunition units, Mr Chaika has added. "In the NCFD as a whole, the number of crimes committed with the use of weapons and explosives has decreased by more than 7%. It is especially gratifying to note that this was observed in Kabardino-Balkaria and Dagestan. However, at the same time, some growth by 4% in revealed crimes related to illegal drug dealing was observed," said the presidential envoy.

In 2020, in the NCFD, the operative situation remained tense amid terrorist threats, the pandemic and the hidden work of ideologists of terrorist and extremist organizations, Yuri Chaika has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in February 2021, in the course of the ongoing armed conflict in Northern Caucasus, one person was killed and three others were wounded. These are the results of the calculations run by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from open sources.
