650 people take part in mourning rally dated to centenary of Georgia's sovietization

At schools, they tell little about the events of February 1921, when the Red Army invaded Georgia, the participants in the mourning rally in Tbilisi have stated. It is important to preserve democracy in Georgia, the foreigners who took part in the rally have stressed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that since 2010, February 25 is marked in Georgia as the Soviet Occupation Day. On this day, people pay tribute to the cadets who died in 1921 in battles with the Red Army at the gates of Tbilisi.

The mourning event "Never Back to USSR" was held near the parliament in Tbilisi by the NGO "Sirtskhvili" (Ashamed). "We are holding the action not only in memory of the fallen heroes who defended Georgia a hundred years ago, but also to prevent the revenge, the plans of which are cherished by Vladimir Putin, who has treated the collapse of the USSR as the greatest geopolitical catastrophe," Shota Digmelashvili, one of the leaders of the "Sirtskhvili", has stated.

The school curriculum covers the events of 1921 very poorly, said Solomon, a resident of Tbilisi. "They say that in 1921 there was a war during which Georgia was captured. But nothing is said about the losses suffered by the nation," he said.

In parallel with the rally, a memorial action was held with the participation of citizens of different countries.

"Today, I found it necessary to come here, because I support the striving for democracy in all post-Soviet countries, including Belarus and Georgia ... I find it important that there is no return to communism and dictatorship," Sergey from Ukraine said.

"I came here because there are signs of repressions reappearing in Georgia," said Roman from Belarus.
