Djabiev's case triggers political crisis in South Ossetia
The death case of Inal Djabiev after interrogation at the police has become the trigger and central element of a large-scale political crisis in South Ossetia, Ruslan Totrov, a journalist, has stated. The political instability has been embodied in a boycott by most of the MPs of parliament sessions demanding the resignation of the Public Prosecutor General, David Sanakoev, an MP, has stated.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Oksana Sotieva, Inal Djabiev's widow, has headed the movement to defend the rights of South-Ossetian residents. Activists intend seeking a fair inquiry into Djabiev's death and the restoration of rule of law in the region. Ms Sotieva has called on former South-Ossetian presidents asking them to support the demand to investigate her husband's death.
The letter from former presidents became a loud reminder of the Djabiev case, said David Sanakoev, an MP from the "Nykhas" Party. However, he expressed doubts that the appeal would have the desired effect, although Anatoly Bibilov, the incumbent President of South Ossetia, promised to consider it.
The appeal of ex-presidents of South Ossetia testifies to the fact that "the situation has reached an impasse, and an intervention of authoritative people is required," Alan Mamiev, a political analyst, is sure.
Every day, about 20 people go out to the protest action in Tskhinvali. If the public were more active, this would contribute to the fact that the demands of the Djabiev family could be heard, the participants of the action believe.
