Chechen publicist Rizvan Ibragimov dies

Rizvan Ibragimov, a writer, who was persecuted in Chechnya on charges of extremism after he was criticized by republic's authorities, has passed away.

In July 2016, the court found several Ibragimov's books to be extremist; Rizvan said that in April 2016, he was kidnapped by law enforcers and tortured with electric current; then, he treated his subsequent meeting with Ramzan Kadyrov as "public humiliation."

Books by Ibragimov and publicist Aslambek Didiev were criticized by Chechen theologians and authorities; they were seized from republic's shops. The historians interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" have critically assessed the scientific value of Ibragimov's works, saying that his persecution by the authorities brought him more popularity than the books themselves.

The death of Ibragimov was reported on the Facebook by Taus Serganova, a journalist from Grozny.

Let us remind you that Rizvan Ibragimov repeatedly commented for the "Caucasian Knot" on the situation with human rights violations in Chechnya. Thus, in August 2019, he confirmed that in Chechnya, there was an unspoken compulsion system for attending matches of the "Akhmat" Football Club (FC).
