President Aliev offers Russia to use transport corridor through Nakhichevan
Russia, along with Armenia, Iran, and Turkey, will be able to use the transport corridor to connect Nakhichevan with the eastern regions of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliev has announced today.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the ceasefire agreement in Nagorno-Karabakh, which entered into force on November 10, 2020, provides for the construction of new transport communications to connect the Azerbaijani enclave – the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic – with the eastern regions of the country.
At a meeting dedicated to the results of 2020, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliev has announced that Armenia, Iran, Turkey, and Russia will be able to use the Nakhichevan transport corridor along with Azerbaijan.
"At present, certain activities are underway to open the Nakhichevan transport corridor. <...> Azerbaijan, Turkey, Russia, Armenia, and Iran will also use this road," said Ilham Aliev as quoted today by the "AzerTac" state-run news agency.
According to the Azerbaijani President, negotiations are underway with Russia on the restoration and modernization of railways in the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic, the TASS reports today.
