Tbilisi activists demand from authorities to take measures to fight famine
The Tbilisi townspeople, who lost their jobs due to restrictions amid coronavirus, have nothing to feed their families, the NGO "United Youth of Georgia" has stated.
On December 28, the NGO held an action with the participation of 20 people whom it helps. Lika Mamporiya, an NGO activist, has noted that most people could not come, because public transport does not work in the city, while jobless people cannot afford to take a taxi.
The participants of the action told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that during the lockdown most of them lost their jobs.
"I work in a beauty salon, but the rent is too high, and people have no money for hairdressing. As a result, I had to close the salon. I lost my job, and my son is a schoolboy," said Tatiya, a hairdresser.
"I have a lot of debts but no work. I just have to survive. Now I spend the money that I received by pawning my equipment and a car," Mikhail, an auto engineer, has complained.
Before the lockdown, Nana worked for an insurance company; and now she is unemployed. Besides, the bank refused to delay her loan payments.
