Azerbaijan announces closure of land border with Russia

Movement across the land border with Russia will resume no earlier than March 1 due to an increase in the number of coronavirus infection cases in both countries and due to the strict quarantine in Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijani Embassy in Russia announces.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that after September 27, when the fighting began in Nagorno-Karabakh, one group of Azerbaijani citizens was sent home across the border with Dagestan only on October 20. By December 6, about 500 people were awaiting departure to the homeland.

Azerbaijani citizens began to face the problem of returning home from Russia in April, when the state border was closed because of the pandemic. In the summer, a temporary accommodation centre (TAC) was arranged near the Dagestani village of Kullar.

Over the past day, 3962 new cases of the coronavirus infection have been registered in Azerbaijan, and 45 people have died, the "Sputnik-Azerbaijan" reports.
