In Chechnya, number of armed incidents within less than a year reaches level of 2019

In Chechnya, after two December shootouts with law enforcers, the number of armed incidents in the republic has reached four since the early 2020, like throughout the year of 2019. These are the results of the calculations run by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from open sources.

In 2019, in Chechnya, at least nine persons were injured in four armed incidents. Of them, five were killed, and four others were injured. The death toll includes four suspected members of illegal armed formation (IAFs) and one law enforcer. The number of the wounded people includes four law enforcers.

On December 17, law enforcers shot dead two persons in Kurchaloi. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), law enforcers stopped a car to check IDs of a driver and passengers, and the people from the car attacked the policemen, threw an improvised explosive device (IED) at them, and opened fire. The incident has become the first attack on law enforcers in Chechnya since the early 2020.

The recent counterterrorist operation (CTO) took place in the Achkhoi-Martan District on December 16. Ramzan Kadyrov announced that suspected militant Kazbek Baidulaev was killed during the CTO.

On October 13, in Grozny, law enforcers cordoned off a house in which suspected militants took shelter. As a result of a shootout, four of the suspects, two fighters of the National Guard of Russia, and a policeman were killed. The CTO became the first special operation conducted within the period of almost two years.

It should also be noted that the statistics provided might be incomplete.
