Afghan Sadygov's wife treats his health condition as critical

The health condition of Afghan Sadygov, who has been on hunger strike for more than three weeks in the Baku SIZO (pre-trial prison), has deteriorated down to critical; while the date for considering his complaint against the verdict is being delayed, Afghan's wife said on November 26.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 14, the Azerbaijani General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) announced that Afghan was accused of extortion. Sadygov himself treated the charge as slander. On July 10, the journalist went on a hunger strike at the SIZO and stopped it five days later. On November 3, the court sentenced him to 7 years in prison; and on November 4, in protest, he went on a hunger strike again. After 20 days of hunger strike, Sadygov's health had deteriorated, his wife said on November 26.

Afghan Sadygov's health condition had worsened, his wife said on November 26. "Afghan is getting worse and worse every day. Today is the 23rd day of his hunger strike and the fourth day of his dry hunger strike. He is exhausted; he could hardly be heard. Afghan was barely brought to the negotiation point in the SIZO. He still doesn't allow to be fed by injections," Ms Sadygova told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent on November 26.

She believes that her husband's case is being protracted. "As of today, Afghan can only be released by the Court of Appeal. Knowing about his hunger strike, they deliberately protract the consideration of his complaint. He is on the verge of death," Ms Sadygova has stressed.
