Dagestani woman's story about female circumcision sparks disputes over women's rights in Islam

Female genital mutilations are wildness, Instagram users have pointed out when discussing the story of a native of a Dagestani village. They have expressed opposing views on whether this practice speaks of a violation of women's rights in Islam.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the "AfishaDaily" told about a native of the Charodinsky District of Dagestan, who only at the age of 42 learned that she had been circumcised in childhood.

Readers of the "Caucasian Knot" Instagram page have treated the practice of female circumcision as wildness. "This is a violation of human rights. I've never known before that this is present in our country," the user margarita.rum.bayramova has written.

"In my opinion, even in Somalia this savagery has already been banned. It's a shame," said the user shanatovas.

Other users have argued about whether women's rights are recognized in Islam. "Everything in Islam is for men's benefit, but nothing for women!" the user nuri_omarova_ has stated. She also noted that the problem is especially urgent for the Caucasus. "Men are allowed to be two steps higher than women, but Caucasian men have raised themselves 120 steps higher," the social network user believes.

"No, in Islam, women's rights are fully observed," the user sultangayazov has objected. "You first find out your rights in Islam," the user musaev.msaid has advised.
